What is an appropriate amount of gillnets?

Recreational fishermen should only catch enough fish to meet their own needs. In many cases, laying just a few gillnets is sufficient to achieve the required catch.

In spring 2012, the "Project to promote sustainable salmon fishing practices on Lake Saimaa" conducted a postal survey of fishery districts, fishing clubs and professional fishermen.

One of the clear results of the survey was that the respondents want to see restrictions on the number of nets used in recreational fishing. The most popular choices were 1-3 and 4-6 nets per fisherman.

Fishery districts and joint ownership associations should discuss the number of units they want to allocate to each individual recreational fisherman.
